How to Get the IP Address of a Router on Windows

On Windows, the IP address appears as the “Default Gateway.” There are two ways to find out the default gateway. One is through Command Prompt. The other way is through the graphical interface.

When using Command Prompt all you need to do is to use the ipconfig command. On the other hand, when using the graphical interface, you have to do several steps. First, you have to go to the Control Panel by clicking the Start button and typing Control Panel in the small search bar.

Once you get to the Control Panel, look for the Network and Sharing Center window on the upper right part of the screen. Then click the name of your router or network connection. After that, look for the Ethernet Status window then choose the Details button.

You should find the IP address of your router in the Network Connection Details window. It is the one with the words “IPv4 Default Gateway.”

Finding the Router’s IP Address on Mac OS X

Finding the IP address on a Mac is easier. All you need to do is click the menu on the bar located at the upper part of the screen. Then click the System Preferences window and then the Network icon. (Systems Preferences > Network icon)

After that, you have to find the name of the network you are connected to. It could be a WiFi or wired connection. After selecting it, you have to select the Advanced button on the bottom right part of your screen. Another Network window should pop up. This time, select the “TCP/IP” tab. You should see the router’s IP address beside the word ‘router’.

Finding The Router’s IP Address on an iPhone or iPad

You can also find your router’s IP address using an Apple device like an iPhone or iPad. The process is the same for both devices. Just select Settings, then Wifi and then the name of your WiFi network. The screen will show the router’s IP address beside the same name, which is the router.

Finding the Router’s IP Address on Android

When it comes to Android devices, learning how to get the IP address of a router is a bit complicated. That’s because a third party application is needed.

Such applications include WiFi Analyzer which offers the ideal WiFi channel for your network. To look for the gateway tap Menu then proceed to AP list.

Finding the Router’s IP Address on Chrome OS
